Use of a RQDX3 Controller on a Microvax 3500

Dear all,

I am trying to use a KA650 CPU in a MV3500 together with a RQDX3 Controller.

Unfortunately, I do not own the BA23 Front Panel with the LEDs and Switches, only the distribution panel.

When I try to boot from a harddrive perpared on a MV2000 or try to mount a MFM drive from VMS started via network boot in a Cluster
I get random error messages (Files cannot be loaded upon boot, CTRLERR, Device offline). The same is true when I am in VMS and try to initialize oder mount a drive - then I get Device offline or write protect errors.

Is it true that I need the control panel?

I have found a replacement board for front panel and distribution board here https://avitech.com.au/?page_id=645#jumpers but unfortunately there is no gerber files available on the site. Maybe anybody here could help or give me some insight on the issue.

Maybe I just need to install a 100k (??) resistor between +5V and RD0RDY to make the drive ready and a 100k (??) resistor between +5V and RD0WPT to make the drive writeable?

Yes you must install a pull-up resistor for both the ready and write protect pins, so your drive is recognized and writeable. Any value 10K-100K should work.
