hey guys,
i guess i'm in the right forum? AMD-K6-2\450mhz MB-ASUS P5A-B
as said i have a vcore error, i assume its a jumper setting?

but i'm not sure if its too low or high?
setting it to "IGNORE" still gives the OS a bad time and no boot except to SAFE MODE.

i used these settings

but i'm reading this as pins from left to right,,
however this picture says its right to left???(chinese numbering perhaps)?

Thought i'd get some input before changing anything -- i don't want to get any of that magic blue smoke
from this board

thanks for your input

thanks for the explanation. and fast too. i love this place its my favorite bar!
i thought the picture was just for location and not orientation.
and BTW your pictures are just for illistration and not settings for my
particular applaction , right? my cpu is the K6-2 450mhz

i also have a rear panel usb and ps2 with ir board but it hasn't worked
i did notice a cmos setting about enabeling usb , i guess that would be
the one to change?
thanks

Right--I should probably pull out my old motherboard and see what the jumpers are for my K6--it's been too long since I've actually had the thing in a system.

Those jumper settings should be used as a chart on how to set a specific core voltage, not what specific core voltage to use for a blanket range of CPUs.

K6/2s ran at several different core voltages, depending on speed and stepping. They could range from 2.0-2.2v. The K6/3 generally required a higher voltage 2.3-2.4v.

The core voltage is printed on the lid of every K6/2, you need to use that, not what the chart tells you to use. I have two different revisions of the K6/2 450 and they both have different core voltage specifications.

So after checking it said "2.4v core"
i also have one that is 2.2v
