I have a number of items I would like to sell.

Altair
Altair extra accessory boards
Imsai
SIM-1

Some individual S-100 boards (some rare)
Morrow
Ithica
Seal

I have a lot of vintage documentation. Some user manuals and advertisements.

Early Byte and Kilobaud
DEC RSX-11M Manuals
SOL tech manuals
Microprocessor chip documentation

Lots of chips
1801 RCA micro. (Part A and B) (still in the plastic, very rare)
Z80
RAMS 2102

I really do not know what to do with it all and I do not have a list but if someone is looking for something specific, let me know.

I forgot to mention

I have some very early PC games and PC applications like Quatro Pro and Borland software. Dial up modems.

As cool as this may sound I'm unfortunatly going to have on a too good to be true clause.

You have any pics of the stuff? What's a Sim-1?

Where am I located?

Where am I located?

I live in Doylestown PA but I can provide pictures of what I have and ship it if necessary.

You must have noticed that working Altairs and Imsais go for around $1500 to $3000 on ebay. Low end price of $1500 seems pretty consistent.

What is a SIM-1

What is a SIM-1

The SIM-1 was produced by Synergetics to compete with the VIM-1. It had a few more bells and whistles but looks similiar. I believe I have the video interface (ie. TV) that went with it.

You also have 2 threads going about the exact same thing. Makes for lots of confusion.

Thanks for pointing that out. I merged the two threads.

Now I am, like most of the rest of you, anxiously awaiting pictures, prices and a more complete inventory.

Thanks again tmotoole for offering this stuff here.

Pics of the IMSAI 8080

Pics of the IMSAI 8080

The IMSAI actually has a MITS 8800 CPU Bd Rev 0. Some modifications have been made to the front panel with a ribbon cable attached to a plug-in prototyping board plugged into the backplane but the ribbion cable is damaged. The system powers up with the CPU. The system has been dormant for a long time and needs to be cleaned and restored. I have about 12 S-100 cards that came with the system or I purchased on my own. (A list and pics to follow)

I need some advise: Is it better to sell the IMSAI with the CPU board and then sell each S100 card individually or is it better to put together a system of cards (CPU, IO, Memory)? I am aware some of the Altair's and IMSAI's have gone for $1500 or more but I am unsure of what the system configuration was.

Me too! Please post photos, inventory, etc. I am very interested in the S-100 parts, chips, documentation, etc.

I am very much looking forward to your sale. I sincerely hope you sell your items to those who are genuinely interested in restoring vintage computers versus the speculators who plague Ebay. I know the people here would appreciate it.

Thanks!

PS, have you seen how Vern Potter sold his cache of stuff? He started his own Yahoo Group to disposition the items. I helped him out a little bit and he managed to clear most of his stuff in short order. I bought some stuff and as far as I know it worked out great for everyone.

My suggestion would be to package the IMSAI with a solid set of cards, docs and whatnot and then sell any surplus as separate items.

One thing you should do is check the CPU on the CPU board. Early Altair systems shipped with bargain bin Intel chips. This means that a high percentage of those boards have fairly rare, short run versions of the 8080 such as the 8080, 8080-1 and 8080-8 as opposed to the very common 8080A. The rarer chips are highly valued by chip collectors.

I saw a single MITS CPU board sell for nearly $800 just because it had a plain 8080 on it.

Yes indeed, the $1500 to $2400 figure is usually for good condition, working IMSAIs with CPU, memory, serial i/o. Floppy controller would add to the value. Wow, I had no idea about the rare 8080 chip deal, yummy.

Here is a Zip'd spreadsheet of what I have inventoried so far. I still have a lot of chips and documentation. Most of the IC's are from the 1976-1979 era. CMOS etc. One of the MITS 8080 CPU boards has a TMS 8080 JL designation with no other markings.

I want to point out that I have a full set of original CP/M manuals (I believe it is a full set) with the original End User Agreement signed by Gary Kildall.

I am considering packaging up some of the S-100 boards into a working system.

The attached file is a zip'd Microsoft Excel Spreedsheet.

The spreadsheet attached fine on the second post (I purged the first one as a duplicate.)

It looks like you've got some fun stuff in there!

The S-100 boards seem to go for anywhere between $30ish and $100 for most boards with certain items (like the MITS 1K RAM, EPROM board or Tarbell controllers) perhaps going higher.

These are eBay dollars, of course. YMMV. :)

If it were my system, I think you'd get a better price if you could assemble a working system from the parts. Especially if you could get it to boot something and take a picture or video of it booting.

I recently built an S-100 chassis system from broken parts I bought and repaired. It was a lot of fun. Here is a picture:

However, it would likely require a considerable investment in time and effort to get one working if you have not recently worked on the boards. I have noticed the old electronics gradually fail over time and you have to weed out all the broken pieces.

Be sure to reform your power supply before plugging anything in though. If your PS has been turned off for years, the electrolytic capacitors have probably dried out and need to be reformed or you'll be sorry when you plug it in!

Thanks!
