Hi Everyone:) ,

I am looking for a floppy drive for a IBM PS/2 77 488. That's what is says on the cover. I am told that it is a PS/2 Model 77 486. The system reports the OS as: AIX aixps2 1 3.0 i386; IF that helps.
The floppy drive is unique in that it does not have the power cable going to the floppy drive like I am used to seeing on most PC's.

Anyone know where I can get a floppy drive for this unit?

Thanks,
Greystoke

What's the FRU on the drive you have and I'll look through my box of IBM floppy drives?

The 9577s can take either the "*" or non-"*" drives I think. Both are marked as FRU 64F4148 anyway. The OP should have the metal sled from his bad drive, but I have those too.

man, thanks for the response guys:)

I'm not sure because the computer is in the hands of a complete novice, and over 300 miles away.
But how much do you want for them. I'll take one of each to be sure if they are affordable.

Thanks again,
greystoke

Ok, I have a IBM drive here, it's in a sled, it has no * on the eject lever and contains the following identifications;

IBM FRU 64F4148
IBM ASM 64F5996
1994 13
A04
On the IBM sticker;
MP-F40W-03
P/N 72X6101
EC/N D06524
Manufactured for IBM Corporation

On the Sony sticker on the back;
MODEL MP-F40W-00

In addition, the power connector is plugged into the logic board instead of being available for an external lead.

Close enough to what you're looking for? :)

hey there,

thanks for the helpful reply.
It does sound like a match.

Iv'e fixed thousands of PC's. But I never learned much about the IBM's and have worked mostly with windows and DOS. But I look forward to learning more UNIX and LINUX.

My thoughts when I looked at this PC of my friend was...
all floppy drives that I have ever seen in PC's were all the same.
When I saw this unique floppy drive, and there was not a seperate power source for it, I figured I just needed to find a drive that didn't have the seperate power cable and that would work.

I think it would.
Can I buy it from you?
Thanks,
Greystoke
