wanted: older socket 478 P4 chip

I think this mobo will support down to 1.6ghz (or 1.4). I can't see blowing ~$150+ on a chip when I only payed $17 for the mobo! And I bought it through the mail from weirdstuff ~8 months ago, so therefore if it don't work (was new though) I'll be at less of a loss.
Anyone got any pictures of sick case mods by the way?
 
USSEnterprise may be able to help you with the CPU, but as far as RAM, does the board require RDRAM, SDRAM, or DDR RAM? RDRAM has two notches in the middle about .5" apart; SDRAM, as I would imagine you know, has 3 notches; and DDR has 1 around the middle. As soon as you post which one, we can help.

By the way, isn't RDRAM like 3X faster than SDRAM because it doesn't have to keep recharging micro capasitors or something like that? (I don't know much about memory)
 
RDRAM runs at 800MHz and up. Its a lot faster than SD and DDR. The highest level of RDRAM is 1GHz. Thats why I don't see what all the fuss about DDR2 is. RDRAM was at 1GHz long before it was.....

The speed of the RAM is not limited by the bus speed (FSB) of the computer. The RAM uses it's own local (processor direct) bus (a back-end bus) to the CPU. Does that sound about right? (It's late here too)...

Yes, but I said "Limited". Systems usually crash if the bus speed of the CPU is higher than the bus speed of the memory.

indeed that would happen, but why would the FSB be faster than the memory clock?

And just to watch your mind shift gears with out the clutch, the Rambus Corporation also makes XDR, which has a memory clock speed of 3.2 Ghz. o_O Thats got a peak bandwidth of 16 GB per second. Now thats high speed.......

Say you have a PIII 866 MHz with a 133 MHz FSB, and you put PC100 RAM into the motherboard...

As far as a CPU for Chris2005, check eBay, I just looked, and you will be able to find a used with warranty, P4 1.8 GHz chip for under $40 including shipping.
 
LOLOLOLOL The Memory bus and FSB can run at different speeds in both directions. I was tired, I was lucky to hit the keyboard at that point. (IBM Model M, so its a little hard to miss....) I'm not sure how I came up with that one......
