When did GPUs first support higher refresh rate LCD/LED monitors? How do I tell if one supports it?

I have LCD monitors from 2008 and 2009 that only run at 60Hz, but sometimes 75Hz on a few resolutions. I want to someday buy a 240Hz+ OLED PC monitor and use it with my old GPUs.

Are the late 2000's GeForce 200 series and their Quadro/NVS variants too old?

The GTX 200 series supported 60hz at 2560x1600 resolution via dual-link DVI-I. I used to drive a Dell U3011 30 inch 2560x1600 off of my GTX 260.

The GTX 260 can support up to 240hz, so it should be possible. It should be able to do 120hz at 1080p for sure, since it maxes out at 2560x1600 at 60hz on one the DVI-I dual link ports. Doing a quick computation, 1920x1080 at 120hz is similar in bitrate to 2560x1600 at 60hz.
