This showed up on Hackaday, thought I'd re-post here - all about the equipment used in Chernobyl.

Of course the one about the paper tape reader caught my eye.

I am sure I used Facit paper tape readers a few years before 1986 that had a faster throughput than 1500 cps.

If you got your hand anywhere near the paper tape when it was running, you got a very serious paper cut. Quite often I had white paper tape programs with embedded red spots!

This was back in 1982/1983.

I suspect the 'fastest in the world' statement was not 100% true - unless it related to when the reader was first introduced of course.

EDIT: I am unable to find any online documentation for the readers that I used unfortunately.

https://www.cryptomuseum.com/telex/facit/n4000/index.htm has documentation for a slightly later Facit puncher with reader. The very large memory capacity that made it into effectively a dedicated RAM disk was different from the earlier models but otherwise there wasn't much that could be changed for paper tape.
