ZTerm semi working

Hi! I have a USRobotics modem plugged into my Mac SE FDHD.

I can make calls and send text over. But I cannot receive anything from the distant computer.

I have zero experience with modems on old Macs and Zterm.

Is there anything I might have forgot?

Are you using an old analog POTS line, or are you using a VOIP service for the telephone line?

Modems generally don't work on VOIP service because compression is used that corrupts the data stream between the modems.

It's impossible to know these days whether you have a true analog POTS connection from end to end, because telco providers are increasingly substituting POTS lines for VOIP as they fail. You could have a POTS service to the nearest switch box, but the telco could have installed a POTS to VOIP system there to go the rest of the way.
