I found this picture which was very close to my board, then I edited it to match the one I have, the bios has a hand written sticker on it - DTK 2.27

Well the Hard drive is like nothing ive ever seen 2 data cables on it one the same as the big floppy and one smaller, seagate. It has 2 big floppies. The keyboard even has the old lotus mini manual attachment, a joystick, a printer Panasonic KXP109i, and color monitor, it also came with a huge software collection, MS Flight Simulator with all booklets, and about 10 maps, 2 floppies. Lotus 123 2 floopies + manual and keyboard layout. of course its loaded with DOS. Also have the 7 floppy MS windows 3.1 loads of educational software and nearly 100 games :-D all have origional sleeves and guides, maps, clues, manuals including the manual for the printer.

The only thing that does not have a book or manual is the PC itself, it has a metal tag on the front upper left corner "Personal Computer XT" If anyone knows more about this awesome piece of history that I now own I would begratefull to know the jumper settings, specs, etc.. but in the meantime I am having a ball after I cleaned it up and set it up, been playing some of the games, exploring, etc.. The drive has spinrite installed, and I found a note so I know to type park everytime before I shutdown to keep the drives data safe :-D

Well I also geuss I should introduce myself Hiya, I am Shawn, glad to be here, I am so jazzed about this system that I just had to join so I could share this with people who also find these Vintage machines exciting :-D

Well I gotta run, I will be back tomorow, and Ill try to update my profile more, and read more in the forums :)

Thanks all, -wave-

That's because it's an MFM controller. If i'm wrong, don't be too harsh on me; i read the info out of a book.

You may want to consider getting one of hargle's XT-IDE card, which will let a modern IDE hard drive be used in an XT or compatable.

And also, welcome to the Vintage Computer Forums!

Why? According to the OP, the current MFM HD works just fine--and is probably going to continue working just fine for years to come. Sometimes you get a good one.

Changing out the hard drive would seem to me to destroy the value of the item as a relic. Besides, no version of DOS that you can run on an XT will really support a "modern" (i.e. 100's to 1000's of GB) hard drive. At best, you'll only be able to use part of it.

:) Thanks everyone for the comments, Yeah I was thinking I will prolly keep the current mfm HDD the way it is, perhaps I might consider adding an ide card someday if needed but for now everything works perfect, and I would like to keep it in origional condition :)

Thanks a bunch for the link to the manual too I am heading there now to check that out.

Also I have told a few of my friends I am looking for older vintage computers, and today a friend stopped by and told me about 2 old computers at their friends, I guess they have been in a barn for quite a few years now, but they are supposed to be from before 1990, at least thats what I was told, and I know the barn looks like its in good shape so I am hoping that weather hasent affected them, any way I already have the OK to go and pick them up for free :) so I have my fingers crossed and Ill let you all know what comes of it.

Sincer I put the word out around here that Ill adopt any and all computers and parts that anyone doesnt want or need any more I have ended up with a little stockpile with a few pearls in it. If my stock starts getting to big Ill look to you guys :)

again thanks everyone :)
