Hey all,

I came up with an old AppleTalk ISA card and wanted to see if anyone had a desire for it before I parted it out for the chips. (It has a 65C02 CPU, SRAM chip, Serial Controller IC, and an EPROM on it...)

$10 plus shipping.

Thanks!

RJ

Is it 8-bit or 16-bit ISA, and what kind of connector (excuse me, while I have a bunch of Macs I'm a Mac networking noob) does it have?

There were interesting cards. The early ones came with the DB9 connector and the later ones used the mini-DIN 8 connectors that regular Localtalk boxes had.
They came with a disk containing the software to use it
If Raven has no use for it, I got a system for it to go inside of.

I have quite a use for it, actually. I can't seem to get a single of my dozen or more ethernet adapters to work with any of my Macs. With this card I can set up a Localtalk card on my 486 and use it to bridge my Macs to my main network, making them far more useful. :p

I hope it has the standard Localtalk DIN connector, but if not, I assume that you can convert without much trouble?

Shoot me a PM whenever you see this so we can start to set up shipping/payment, channelmaniac.

I would if I could...

;)

It has the DB9 on it. I only have the card, no disks.

Quite busy on here, lol, sorry bout the message quota.

Gah, I just spent the past hour searching for the software and drivers for this thing. The most important piece of software, a TCP/IP<->AppleTalk routing program for DOS that works with this card, was on ftp.digital.com - apparently gone now. It was at "ftp.digital.com/pub/net/ip/routing/pc" Does anybody have or know of a mirror? I've looked and looked and archive.org didn't archive this particular folder and nowhere else I've seen has either. The worst part is the site I found info on doesn't mention filenames, just the directory, so I can't find the software that way.

Edit: During my search Anonymous Freak posted. That particular site links all over to other places which don't exist anymore. MacLAN for Win3x is one such piece of software I'd like but can't find, and the other is mentioned above.

http://www.archive.org <-- use the WayBack machine. As long as the site didn't disallow archiving through robots.txt, it should be there. I use it often to get to old archives that no longer exist.

I don't recall the name of the software, but the AWS95 setup had software for PCs to connect to the Apple network over TCP/IP (DOS and WIN3.x I think it was). Could that be maclan?
I am pretty sure they never made a version for Win95 or later.

"I've looked and looked and archive.org didn't archive this particular folder and nowhere else I've seen has either."---^

There are Win9x and NT versions of various Localtalk softwares, but it's the DOS/3x I'm interested in anywho. The plan is to stick this in my 486 and use it to put files on my old Macs in an easier way than trying to fit them on DOS-formatted 3.5" disks after getting a DOS-formatted floppy reader onto the Mac in question. It will also let me get them on the 'net to get files directly, and serve more of a purpose for me.

If anybody has any software for this card for any purpose on any Microsoft OS let me know.

One of the PC-based software for the card was PCROUTE. Search for "pcroute2.24.tar.z" (which I think is the latest version). There is also a description of the setup at http://tldp.org/LDP/LG/issue26/dubs.html. I think it used packet drivers for the LocalTalk card.

You are awesome. I first searched for PCROUTE after reading the first bit of this message, found 2.21 - it only supported one network card. I then searched for the version you mentioned here, and it supports three and any packet driver. Again, you are awesome.
