I apologize on any broken English I have, when I do forum posts I usually rush them and edit a million times. ( Still do my best on keeping information as accurate as possible! )

I am looking for a 5160 system that works fully, the more decked out the better! I will actually be using this on a daily basis while in school.

If you have word processing software disks we could make some sort of deal there. I also do need a compatible printer but that is after the working system is in my hands.
I will add more posts with updated lists since there is not enough for a google spreadsheet yet.
So Check The last posts in the thread.

Please Post or PM your prices.

I live in Canada but i have a US shipping address as well so don't worry!
I CAN BUY from either side of the border :D

Alright well... I found a 5150 In town for sale with 64k of ram I believe, working booted up. Needs a clean up will post about find

I still need word processing software & a proper keyboard so please PM me about them!

Which town?

Look at his location.
How can I possibly thank you for that extremely helpful advice...

Unfortunately it hasn't helped; perhaps with your uncanny psychic powers you could just tell me which of the two towns (approximately 900 miles apart) he's in at the moment?

Sheesh...

Some nasty fires happening up there near Thunder Bay these days...

yup im in Thunder Bay at the moment,
There are some fires around here currently yes, but its far enough away im not worried.
Our air quality is falling though.

A lot of the native reserve towns have evacuated some of their citizens to our town and others.

Sorry about confusion there!

By the way...
Still buying a compatible Keyboard & Assorted Software or manuals ( someone has just PM'd me about Word processing Software)

If you've only 64kb of Ram on this system, you might want to think about getting that upgraded - 64kb won't run many word processors!

Also, so far as word processors, you might want to consider Microsoft Works for DOS. I know that the Windows product is much maligned when compared to Word, but I used the DOS product for YEARS. Unlike WP5.1, you got a fully-wysiwyg editor, and it would do MOST things that one would need, however if you're already familiar with Word Perfect, then obviously the learning curve is moot, and it is the more robust choice (for me, the extra functionality it had wasn't often needed, and I hated the relative lack of a wysiwyg interface).

Also, the spreadsheet and database functions of Works were good enough for most common tasks, though again, if you need really advanced stuff, you probably would want Lotus or D-Base.

(man... years since I thought about those days!)

Extra memory is definitely a good idea, but I believe the early version(s) of WordStar did run in 64K (since it was derived from the CP/M version). I might have a PC/XT compatible keyboard somewhere if you haven't found one by the next time you're down here.

Another Update: I as well located a 5160 for my collection and Hope to pick it up beginning of Aug.
It comes with a keyboard, and printer.
I have also Found A second dot-matrix printer from a user here who im thankful to have met.

Regarding the RAM upgrade from 64k.
I would love to upgrade this system if somebody has anything to upgrade it with. I can understand it could limit how this system functions if I was to stick with this much memory.

Regarding the Software Online:
Though these links are helpful, I never completed the full transition with the program yet due to not having a 360KB Drive.
I have located another 1.2MB 5.25 disk and am going to attempt to modify the motor controls using a tutorial to run at 360.
I am looking for 5.25 disks to be mailed to me, I will pay postage and required amounts of money, I accept copies & originals.

And Also anybody who may have any text-like games available would be nice. Who says it has to be all work right :p

You guys are more than helpful, I appreciate all the information you have given me so far!

Wordstar should run with 64KB, I have wordstar for CP/M on Kaypro but the disks need to be tricked sometimes, they are losing their data from the years. :p

My favorite word processor for early MSDOS XTs with small memory was a shareware program called "Write". Without all the B-S bells and whistles, unneeded by most, and the complexities of Word-Star, Wordperfect, or Word. If you have a friend who can download to a 5 1/4 disk, it should be available at no cost.
