Hi, I’m MrRedHat. My wife named me that because I always wear a red hat. I don’t collect much in vintage computers, but I do have a small little collection going. I started collecting vintage computers about 17 years ago when my Dad saved an IBM 5160 computer from being tossed in the dumpster. I’ve had it ever since.

My next computer was a Tandy 1000 TL computer. A few weeks ago I met Trixter and he gave me his Tandy 1000 TL computer, plus lots of other goodies. I was pretty excited to get it, so I cleared some space in the basement for it.

I recently acquired a Tandy 1000 TL/2 computer as well. I paid $25 for an almost mint Tandy 1000 TL/2, but it didn’t have a hard drive. I was able to eBay a 40MB hard drive for it and I was recently able to get it working.

I’m mostly into the Tandy 1000 TL’s, since that’s what I had as a kid. I also love the IBM 5150/5160 line as well. I wanted either one of those pretty bad as kid, but my Dad could never afford them (until he got the Tandy 1000).

I’d like an IBM 5153 CGA monitor, but I haven’t been able to find one yet. It seems everyone likes to pay crazy prices (at least to me) for stuff on eBay.

Heh, nice name they gave you. Welcome officially to the forums! I have a 5160 too, but it has a third party Amdek monitor. Have fun here.

I have a 5151 currently, but I’d like a 5153. Those seem a little bit harder to find. I saw two complete systems that included a 5153 on eBay this weekend, but one sold for $350 with shipping and the other for almost $200. I just wasn’t ready to pay that much for those systems. At those prices I can get myself a nice 500GB SSD drive or something. :)

Welcome! Cool that you're getting to revisit the past. I would think you'd have an easier time finding a clone monitor or perhaps a local Tandy color monitor.. but that's just me but were you looking for your IBM or the Tandy? Certainly keep an eye out and check localish craigslists once and a while. Lots of times you'll find folks who are just trying to get systems into better homes and don't want the shipping fuss. Usually cheaper prices as well although there ARE the unfortunate few who find a posting on ebay that never sells and hope that's the going price.
