Not completely offtopic... look closely...these were at my daughter's school Valentine's Day party yesterday.

So, I guess dot matrix printers have use today. Nothing says I love you like it, don't you think?
 
Probably a v-jet printer -- basically a dot matrix that uses an inkjet head to print dot matrix looking text on objects moving by at speed. This is what puts date codes on the bottom of soda cans.
 
That looks really shoddy compared to the ones that have the sayings stamped on. The only possible advantage is that it allows custom sayings to be printed on without needing to make a new stamp for each one.
