Compaq Presario 860 HDD Int 13h address changed, need help

What drivers do you have loaded? Can you run a virus scan on the drive? A virus or driver are the major items that could hook into Int 13 and change the address.

If you are sure that you have no virus and reinstalled any damaged driver, I think the only option is to attempt a Windows reinstall and hope SETUP can detect the correct INT 13h address.

Are you running a BIOS overlay program (to work around drive size limitation)? What size is the drive?

If not, then you might boot from a floppy and use "FDISK /MBR" and perhaps re-run "SYS C:". (Make sure your boot disks are write protected)

This solved it. I wanted to try the least aggressive methods first. Renamed AUTOEXEC & CONFIG, tried SYS C: without /MBR, and then tried re-installing DOS. Didn't want to re-install Windows if didn't have to. FINDHOOK did point to the BIOS with a boot disk, so that did work towards the solution as well.

Many thanks to all.
