Book 8088 discovery and modification thread

The first ones are CMOS ones and both usually work with small capacitors on X1 and X2. The КР1810ГФ84 is a NMOS version and these usually work with 510 Ohm resistors instead

Book 8088 discovery and modification thread

At first, I got a Trident TVGA 8900D (16bit slot, but can be jumpered to 8bit), but got no video output. I guess, it's because of this problem with the wrong(?) ALE signal. I didn't bother with further investigation, so I got the next card from ebay - one with an OTI067. I could see on the...

Book 8088 discovery and modification thread

Ok, then I'll just try it. Probably it will work as expected Regarding the CPLDs: I just stumbled upon an "ISA CGA" on ebay, which looks like an ISA version of the book8088 CGA card. The card has "www.8086cpu.com" written on it. This site contains schematics for the CGA adapter, as well as for...

Book 8088 discovery and modification thread

Does anyone have schematics for the Book 8088 v2.0? I'd like to remove the provided VGA / CGA cards and see, if an ISA card with an external screen works. I'd /guess/ there will be no bus contention, but it wouldn't hurt to look at the schematics first, if there are any.

Book 8088 discovery and modification thread

My orders arrived now and to my surprise, it just works! Important to mention is that I swapped the Book 8088 BIOS before to the version from here: https://github.com/skiselev/8088_bios I don't know if this is necessary. Probably not. As already written, I ordered a Texelec QuadFloppy, a...

Book 8088 discovery and modification thread

Of course, but for the beginning I wanted to see how / if the overall setup works and train my tinkering / soldering skills with a self-built card later :) But the only downside would potentially be the price, right? Since current ebay prices for retro things here are not substantially...

Book 8088 discovery and modification thread

This is also new for me. So here is what I did / found out. Until now, I ordered the "Quad-Flop" controller from Texelec and a (modified?) Gotek drive. The Texelec seemed to be the most versatile option (and probably the only currently available option apart from tons of old random FDCs on...

Book 8088 discovery and modification thread

Hey, I got my Book8088 v2.0 today. Is it possible to use an external ISA FDC (together with a Gotek or Lotharek emulator) and boot from it? Since I'm tinkering with a Minix 1.2 port, I'd love to have µPD765 compatibility.

Does anyone who might read this have the PC/IX manuals mentioned and would be willing to share them?
