    Decstation 5000/200 Power Supply Failure

Okay, I gave it a try. The 5v rail stays at 5v so I don't think there is a short and the other power rails are okay. I looked at the board with a thermal camera and didn't see any crazy (all <80C) temps. No hot discrete components. However, there is no activity out of the system. I tried...

New England FS:Sun Ultra 10 parts

I'm pretty sure that is the best version of the Creator3D (FFB2+). I'm using my self control to not bite on this.

    Decstation 5000/200 Power Supply Failure

Thanks for all the helpful replies I've gathered a 5v power supply and 5v to 12v/-12v buck/boost converter to use as a stopgap solution as I am debugging the real power supply. Before I hooked these up, I checked the motherboard and unfortunately, I have continuity between 5v and ground, ~26ohms...

Midwest WTB: HP 9000/300 (380 or 382 pref)

Looking for a HP 9000/300 to complete my HP collection (I'd also love a /400 and /500 but I suspect those are too rare). My preference is for a 68040 machine - 380, 382, or 385 - but a nice 68030 machine would work as well. I love the looks of the 380s, but the 382 seems the most practical...

    Decstation 5000/200 Power Supply Failure

I don't think I was clear - I wanted to make sure that I wasn't missing a need for an "enable" signal to activate the 5v output and that is why the power supply seems dead. mike

    Decstation 5000/200 Power Supply Failure

Rob and Rob, Thanks for your hints, these are very helpful starting points. One other question - my power supply has yellow and white wires going to a molex connector, along with two black, green and blue. For completeness, the black wires are common, blue is -12v, and green is 12v. It looks...

    Decstation 5000/200 Power Supply Failure

I got a Decstation 5000/200 and started installing Ultrix. The install crashed, and then the power supply died (maybe the power supply dying caused the hang) with 0v on the 5v rail and the LED is off. I can replace the power supply with a new 5v unit and 5v to +/- 12v module, but I'd also love...

    HP735 (not mine)

Looks great. There is a CRX-48Z on eBay (but missing adapter/cable). I'd love to connect one of those to a 735...

    Utility Linux Distribution

Knoppix was painless to get going - literally zero effort, and it detected all of my hardware. I was able to mount some Sun Solaris disks and get what I needed off of them. So for anyone with similar requirements to my original post, give Knoppix 5.1.1 a try. mike

    Utility Linux Distribution

I tried TinyCore and it has the same problems as the Puppy Linux I tried - no SCSI support. I tried Debian Etch and it found everything correctly, but then I wasn't paying close enough attention and it decided to wipe the MBR of the IDE drive rather than the SCSI drive I was installing to so I...

    Cheap terminal server

Oooh, I forgot about those! After looking at Ebay, I have one en route for <$20 - I didn't think they would be that cheap. A much better option than taking a chance on a random dongle with dodgy documentation. thanks a bunch mike

    Utility Linux Distribution

Can anyone recommend a good modern(ish) linux distribution for Pentium II class machines? By utility I mean wide hardware support and being able to image ancient scsi disks, mount a variety of filesystems, check out various PCI and ISA cards, etc. By modern I mean features like python more...

    Cheap terminal server

I have a Cyclades terminal server that I find incredibly useful for working on my stack of vintage computers. I only really use a single port and space is getting tight in my "vintage computer rack." I've seen a couple cheap single port terminal servers for $10-30...

    The RIFA Experience

Thanks for the discussion. I'll poke around some more when I get the replacement caps tomorrow and see what I can figure out. I think the important point for me is that the often-spouted wisdom of "RIFAs can be removed" isn't always correct. I've read that, when used in DC applications, RIFAs...

    Instrumentation Laboratory Pixel 100/AP

Trawling around Ebay I found this neat machine from 1982, a Instrumentation Laboratory Pixel 100/AP: https://www.ebay.com/itm/125714380860 Looks to be a 68000 Unix system, 1mg ram. Some discussion here (pg 67): https://apps.dtic.mil/sti/tr/pdf/ADA129394.pdf...
