Well, I suppose I'll take your advice and make a new U19. I missed post#13.

    #2 5160 64-256k Motherboard memory question

Good catch. Yes, I had that switch set incorrectly. I had turned it on when replacing the original ROM didn't work and failed to put it back. I also played with 40/80 column mode to see if it made any difference. It doesn't. Unfortunately, repositioning it doesn't seem to make any difference.

    #2 5160 64-256k Motherboard memory question

If I am reading the Ruud's Breakdown correctly at step 103, the ROM at U19 may be a problem. I believe that was the assumption derived from the Landmark ROM as well. I'll try re-seating it. Nope, it still failed on the first 2 passes along with the floppy. I'm also waiting for another...

    #2 5160 64-256k Motherboard memory question

I have received the programmer, the logic probe and the W27E257(-12) chips. I have successfully installed the Ruud's Diag rom and it is running. I'm hoping the LPT port post reader shows up soon. Only banks 0, 1 & 2 are populated at this point. Hopefully the ram upgrade kit shows up soon, it...

Does a DRAM cross reference exist?

I reviewed my search history and found that I had searched for DRAM not RAM. Therefore the apothecary and shotgun loading references returned seemed, at the time, a little odd, but were actually what I had asked for.

Does a DRAM cross reference exist?

And I should have known better than to inject joviality into an Forum that is, generally, very serious about the topics being discussed and with people with different views that I will never have the distinct honor of meeting. My poor sense of humor fails me continuously. My apologies. Once...

Does a DRAM cross reference exist?

Thank you, once again. I obviously need to spend more time on your website. I truly have missed a lot of pages. Fair or not, when another motherboard is destroyed by a hard to remove battery, no one that I have met personally, has said Varta in anything but a very derisive way. The above is...

Does a DRAM cross reference exist?

During my short time playing with 30-40 year old machines, I keep running into different DRAM chips that may be the same as others, but it is sometimes difficult to find data sheets on some of these. My most recent example is a Quadram Quadboard ram expansion board that I picked up from eBay...

    #2 5160 64-256k Motherboard memory question

Two more toys to add to the tool box are on their way. I ordered a logic probe that seems to meet the same specifications as yours. The LPT port post reader was interesting to find on eBay. It kept trying to sell me automotive battery terminals, but I won in the end.

    #2 5160 64-256k Motherboard memory question

This is one of the many reasons that I decided to add more toys to my collection. I'll drag the machine back on the bench and try to figure out how to do this. I'm familiar with only the initial screen. I have done the switch testing on my first/other 5160 when it was still riddled with bad...

    #2 5160 64-256k Motherboard memory question

Sorry for the delay in responding. I've decided to invest in some blank rom chips and a programmer. Unfortunately it will probably be a few weeks before delivery. Then I get to figure out how use the new equipment. If new roms don't fix the issue, I'll be back for more advice..

    #2 5160 64-256k Motherboard memory question

Well that is progress. I swapped the "2" bit dram in the 3rd bank and the diagnostic liked the ram and everything else shy of the floppy read. I let it run for 5 passes. I swapped in the normal bios chip and got a "dead" system. With the Landmark chip back in the board, I'm now seeing a...

    #2 5160 64-256k Motherboard memory question

I have built the dramduino tester and have gone through the memory on my 2nd 5160. I found 3 definitely bad chips. The (maybe) good ones were populated in banks 0 through 2 and the switches set to exclude bank 3. I have the Landmark diagnostic BIOS installed. I am aware that it is not the...

Help! Barney is eating my display! (5160 and 5153 only display in purple)

Replacing the (4) 4.7uf capacitors on the neck board made a great improvement on the overall display color evenness, but the green is still missing. Previously the upper right quadrant was black on startup while the rest of the purple was not even. Now the screen is more even. I adjusted the...
