What's the FDC inside of that thing? On mine, it's an 8473 with a 24MHz crystal. That should make it capable of 300kpbs data rate.

On the Backpack 1231 (so the all metal one that i'm talking about here) it's an Intel 82077 , also with a 24Mhz crystal.

Same diff--the 82077 is perfectly capable of generating the correct 300bps data clock rate. The driver code simply doesn't do it. So it's essentially a software issue. My guess is that the drivers are really 3.5" ones and someone got lazy.
