Hi,

I have a 1084 monitor that I am thinking to sell. It seems to be working well, but I had a quick question about a vertical "stripe" that is about a half inch wide that appears on the left 3rd of the screen. Usually it's not noticeable, but it's most obvious on black screens. Is this a normal for 1084 displays? I've owned this one for 20 years, and it's been present as long as I can remember.

I adjusted some settings to make it appear worse than it actually is, but that's kind of what it looks like.
Just to clarify, the line I'm talking about is the light coloured vertical one, not the big dark horizontal one at the top (that's from the camera)

Is it visible when the monitor isn't connected to anything, or just when the computer is on? And when you turn down the brightness so that the background stops glowing (when it's supposed to be black), is it still visible?

In the photo I provided above, the 1084 isn't connected to anything. Turning down the brightness makes the stripe go away, but you can see it sometimes depending on the colour of the background.

No idea then, unless there is something magnetic inside that is messing with the beams in that spot.

This is feedback from the line output stage (which powers most of the set via the LOPT) into the video amplifiers, I have a very similar type of banding on the leftmost quarter of the screen on my Fidelity portable (which spent most of its life connected to my C64). The bands are most obvious with the brightness up a bit and the picture content or even absence of line lock makes no difference.

You'll need to get a scope on its supply rails and put caps across them as necessary to get rid of the ringing.

Hope this helps
