2386SX bridgeboard problems

Does anyone have any experience with these?

I'm trying to configure one in my A2000 with 8MB of RAM, a Buddha Flash Phoenix IDE controller and WB 2.x.

When I attempt to install the Janus software on the Amiga side, it goes along and seems to install, but when I click on the PCPrefs to set up all the PC parameterrs prior to booting up that side, I get "Cannot open Janus.Library."

WTF???

Any and ALL suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated.

BTW, I've tried using a couple of versions of the Janus software and every tried GVP's 286 (that one guru'd on me!)

I'm suspecting I may have a compatibility problem with the Buddha board and the Janus software. I've heard Janus is a bit fussy on the type of hard drive controller it likes to play with.

No idea really, but is the library located in your LIBS: folder? I don't know what "install" means in this particular context, but would suppose it involves either putting the library in place or extend the assignment so LIBS: points to additional directories. If I recall correct, that is possible in AmigaOS. A such assignment would however be lost at next reboot unless it was permanently setup in the startup-sequence.

However I'm quite certain you know all about those basics already, and your problem is more complex than that.

I think you have to much memory in your Amiga for that card. With a bridgeboard you must reduce the memory to 6mb.

I think you are only allowed 9MB (1MB chip, 8MB FAST) on a stock 2000. The bridgeboard needs 1MB of RAM space to work.

Yeah, the memory issue is what everyone was saying over on amiga.org.

Guess I'll get a screwdriver out and pry 2Mb out of my memory board and see what happens.

I'll report on results when I get home and get to work on it.

YES!!!!!!!

Moved one jumper on my memory card to reduce apparent memory down to 6Mb and was able to access the PCPrefs and set everything up. Clicked on the color PC icon and there I was looking at a prompt waiting for a boot floppy!

Now to get the rest of the PC side set up, ie, IDE controller with IBM 512M microdrive and install DOS and potentially Win 95. Then we'll see where I go from there.

Wasn't there also a firmware update for the bridgeboards to make them work a little better with KS2.x+? Maybe I'm thinking of the Commodore 2091 SCSI card.

Not sure, but I do know there was an upgrade to the PCPrefs that let you do more configuring, including VGA. Found one link to it, but the link was broken. Oh well, make do with what I have.
