Hi

Im looking for a 40 Pin Keyboard Mouse Controlller chip (I believe I need the code). Ideally Quadtel but Ive been told any should work from the 286-486 era.

Im based in the UK but happy to pay for international postage as it should just be a small package.

I've got some AMI controller chips.

Even a small package costs $13.50 from here.

Hi there, thanks for replying. Please can you tell me if they will work without me having to do anything.

Hi please can someone confirm I can replace the 40 pin keyboard mouse controller without any issues. Are they all generic?

Is what you are seeking, the chip referred to as "keyboard controller" at [here] ?
Note: Nothing to do with a mouse.

Yes, that's what he's after.
It sounds like the OP has 'lined one up with you' and is now seeking some kind of guarantee of suitability.

The functionality provided by the keyboard controller in the IBM AT (IBM 5170) is shown at [here].
So, the keyboard controller does more than being a keyboard interface.

It is possible that a clone motherboard maker decided to get the keyboard controller on one (or more) of their motherboards to do something more; something that required additional code to go into the motherboard's keyboard controller.

I have an ASUS ISA-486SV2 board with "AMIKEY BIOS" that wont boot at all unless it has the chip installed. I tried other manufacture K/B BIOS/Ctrl. chips, none worked. I've got a 286 with Quantel BIOS based on a Suntac chipset, don't recall the Keyboard controller make. Post the make/model of the motherboard.

PS/2 mouse support

Technical manuals for some Toshiba laptops indicate that the keyboard controller in those laptops support additional hardware, such as PS/2 mouse ports.
One such laptop is the T1900.
But those keyboard controller chips may not be in a 40-pin DIP package (and 8042 compatible).

However, in an Intel datasheet, the 8242 is indicated as being a pre-programmed 8042. Per below, of the 8242 variants acting as keyboard controllers, the 8042WB also contains PS/2 mouse support.

I was reading my Amstrad PC 9486i user manual a few day's back and remembered something about the Keyboard / Mouse controller, I just had another look and it say's:
Port Mouse: The system uses the keyboard controller to interface with the mouse via a 6 pin PS/2 connector.
I must get the old girl out of bed, She's been asleep for too long.
