I own a IBM 62x0786 MFM Controller ( Xebec ). Unfortunately I have no manual for it. There is a Dip-Switch ( S1 ) with 4 Switches 1 - 4. How I have configure that controller for a ST-412 10MB harddisk?
Switches 1 & 2 configure drive 0 (C
Switches 3 & 4 configure drive 1 (D
0 0 = Type 13 (e.g. WD25)
0 1 = Type 2 (e.g. ST-225)
1 0 = Type 16
1 1 = Type 1 (e.g. ST-412)
Therefore, because you just have the one ST-412 drive, all you need to adjust is switches 1 and 2 - both set to ON.

And how I can lowlevel format the harddisk on a IBM XT-5160?
I assume you're speaking of the forementioned IBM 62x0786 controller in an IBM XT-5160.
The standard G=C800:x method won't work on that card.
You can use the 'IBM Advanced Diagnostics Disk'.
You can use SpeedStor 6.03 - available from

On running, choose 'ManualSetup' then 'Initialize' then 'StandardInit'.
In the following earlier thread, some other alternatives are discussed:

In case you are unaware, the drive needs to have warmed up before you low-level format. 10 minutes should be enough time.
