  • From now on we will require that a prefix is set for any items in the sales area. We have created regions and locations for this. We also require that you select a delivery option before posting your listing. This will hopefully help us streamline the things that get listed for sales here and help local people better advertise their items, especially for local only sales. New sales rules are also coming, so stay tuned.

8 Bit ISA IDE

I got this hunch that some 16-bit ide controller can work on 8 bit isa slot, but not sure if it will work on XT. I believe i have seen an ide controller with AT/XT or 8bit/16bit jumper.

You're absolutely right, many 16-bit IDE controllers do work in 8-bit slots. Many of them don't even need to have a jumper set, and can detect 8 or 16 bit slots automatically. However, installing the card in an XT will normally only let you use the Floppy controller, Serial and Parallel ports. Unlike ATs, XTs need controllers with their own BIOSes to provide hard disk support. So, unless you can find a 16-bit IDE controller with a ROM chip, the IDE functions won't work in an XT.
