8087 Runs HOT

How hot should an 8087 co-processor run in my IBM 5155? I'm running an 8mhz V20 at 4.77mhz on the stock MB that's been modified to 640k ram on MB. The 8087 is pretty hot to the touch. Especialy when compared to the V20 which is cool to touch.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the V20 is an upgraded chip? Runs faster? If so the 8087 is doing its best to keep up. If nothing else put a heat sink and maybe a fan on it to keep things cooler.

Hope this helps, not too familiar with that particular setup. But a fan is always a good thing on a processor.

Actually the V20 is running at the standard 4.77 mhz but is rated to run as fast as 8 mhz if the rest of the system supports it. And the V20 has a more efficient instruction set compared to the 8088, which is where the performance gains come from (as I understand it).
