A curiosity on eBay

For those that like the weird and wonderful... I found this ad on eBay (not my sale)

It appears to be a 286 CPU on an XT-class board... Would this have been a real cheap way of saying you're selling a 286 back in the day?

Obviously it would have been a disappointment when looking for addin cards!

Dunno about claims; ask the Tandy 1000TL owners. This isn't the first board that's come up in the forum recently. Just a way to get more speed, mostly.
 
A quick check of PC Magazine from late 1988 shows a replacement XT motherboard with a 286 and only 8-bit slots cost about $250. The same speed AT clone motherboard cost about $400 at the same time.

I wonder how much the extra 8259/8237/MC146418 chips etc costed back in the day.
