I just got an Amiga mouse from ebay. The right mouse button works, but not X or Y. I'm not sure if teh mouse is bad or the computer. Any advice?

I'd start with the simple things: are the insides clean? Is the cable still good and is the plug making good contact with the port's pins? It'd be nice if you could borrow another mouse to check the computer itself is OK (or indeed try your mouse on another computer).

...and do a continuity check on the cable. They usually break right at the mouse end (where all the bending happens) If it is wrong, then shorten it by a few inches.

Well, I opened up the mouse, and checked the +5v. It's at .7v, so I removed the caps and isolated the power pin on the 339 comparator. The voltage went up to 2.3v. I stilll can't tell if the ir leds are working, they don't meter bad. Is there any way to tell if the ir recievers are ok? The voltage at the computer without anything connected is 5v. I think I read that it only sources 50ma. I've got another mouse coming so I'll probably just wait and make sure the computer is sourcing enough via the new mouse.

Well the other mouse arrived and the computer works just fine. Amazingly enough, the seller on ebay refunded my money and the shipping. I didn't even ask... Wow there are still some people on ebay that have a high degree of integrity. It looks like the IR LEDs are bad, at least I couldn't see them with my camera.
