An all new experience in stupid packaging!!

I had an over 100lb (with the dual 500W PSUs and all the 9 slots filled) IBM 8274-900 shipped from Canada. Despite being well packaged and built on a steel frame with thick alloy side and back plates, it arrived crushed on top. Someone must have stacked a small outline but extremely heavy object on top of it to buckle both the top, side and back plates and twist the frame members to which they were attached.

100 lbs is more than a shipper personal is allowed to lift. It is treated as crate. The fact that it arrived crushed indicates that it was not properly packed.
You expect too much.

I take your point to some extent, but I beg to differ. Had the weight on top been distributed across the whole of the top surface nothing would have happened. It was the small outline of this very heavy object that was the problem. I wouldn't fare well if something like an anvil was dumped on me. ;)

I recently purchase a Machintosh 17" CRT monitor on ebay that was in excellent condition and no yellowing. When I arrived home from work one day, I seen this fairly large box that looked like it has seen better days. I knew it was the monitor but I was hoping it was something my wife order as when I picked it up, the contents were bouncing around. I brought it in and opened it up and was completely shocked on how this monitor was packaged. No bubble wrap at all. All peanuts but only about 50%of the box contained peanuts. The rest, you guessed it, was air !! Monitor was completely destroyed. Not 1 piece was salvageable. Main board cracked. CRT neck was cracked. I was so pissed. I messaged the seller asking how can he send a beautiful vintage monitor in such poor packaging ? I did get a full refund but really wanted that monitor as the price was right and more importantly the condition was near mint.
