OK the Model 3 has gone through another revision with the FreHD autoboot ROM installed.

Current configuration is a standard 48K RAM, 2 drive system with Mitsubishi M4851 Floppies (two full height), and a FreHD w/autoboot.

Future issues to be addressed are a new keyboard (if I can get Jay's attention), a drcision to run two external half height drives, a case for the FreHD, and now what seems to be a memory problem.

When I boot NewDos/80 from the FreHD, 9 out of 10 tries in hangs on PDRIVE,0 otherwise it tells me that it can't find the system file. When I can get it past the PDRIVE command and run MEMTEST3 it gets past the video (text and graphic) and reboots back to the FreHD menu.

LDOS seems to run fine, as I am not noticing and errors there.

I am approaching this as a high memory issue but I am open to any and all suggestions.

Cheers

It's sitting on my work bench all opened up waiting for a new floppy drive, so what do you want before and after ???

As an sidenote the Model 4 has arrived and did not pass the smoke test, I think I have a bad power supply (all 12v are looking like they at 13.8v) haven't looked at the MB yet for damage

Keyboard is in, so the M3 is back together, the basic build of the FreHD box is done. So all that is left is to order a new 48K badge for the keyboard, finish the FreHD box (ribbon cable and power cord exits) and someday a new paint job. Now I need to get back to figuring out why NewDOS/80 doesn't like me.

Now I know NewDos really doesn't like me. I really believe it is a hardware problem now, as the whole machine has shut down. Well I have to start over from ground zero and start looking at the power supplies. have lost video, drives and the whole shebang.

Well the way it died made me suspicious so I opened her back up and pulled the FDC PSU and turned it back on and got greeted with the cass??, ah ha light (over my head) was still lit, so went through the FDC PSU and touched up all of the solder joints (I had noted previously that when the Studio was cold I was having problems with the FDs). Plugged the PSU back in a volia it works !!!! NewDos is still having problems staying alive though. I am suspecting a memory chip has issues even though the memory test show all to be OK.

Ross - do you think you might have a glitched copy of Newdos/80 ????

In your photo I noticed a half height/full bezel Mitsubishi drive - do you have one for sale or might you be interested an exchange of some sort.

I would also like to see a photo of your FreHD box you are building as I am doing the same thing......

For you Jay anything ......

And with that said here are the pics of my FreHD Box (version 1) with room to add other items like a power supply and a fan or maybe a floppy emulator and as you can see I am having great success with getting Babyroot to load ...NOT (this is using the EDAS from Miosys). Think I will have to use TRSDOS Editor/Assembler.

As far as having a corrupt copy of NewDos/80, it is possible but I have downloaded all the copies Ian has on his website and tried the one on the CD and they all act the same. Maybe I should try the one on the disk that Ira sent me, Will send you an email about the drive, Jay. I am planning on ordering the M4GA motherboard next week after my check comes in so a trade is highly possible.

Cheers
