I've been wanting a Commodore PET 2001 for ages now, and the other day I finally bought one - sadly it doesn't work, but hey, if it was working then I wouldn't have been able to afford it. Plus I have the fun of fixing it myself :)

The PET was apparently working a couple of years ago, but the owner put it in his garage and now it's broken. He's now moving house so needs to get rid of lots of "junk".

So I drove over to pick up the PET, and asked the seller if he had any other stuff lying about...

For very little extra, I came back with an IBM XT base unit, an IBM 5150 base unit, a Compaq Portable 386 and a nitro-fuelled RC helicopter

Best of all if I sell the chopper on eBay it will more than cover all my costs for everything, so essentially it was all free...

In truth, the monitor housing has some surface rust, but the trick here is to polish it with "car paint scratch remover" paste which worked very well indeed on one of my XT's :D

I'll likely start a new thread for the PET, as it needs a bit of help (I'm reading up on your PET adventure now, Tezza!).

Amazingly, the Compaq booted right up  Well, it needed the time/date setting with the options disk, but after that it went to the C:\> prompt. Excellent!

The 5150 boots into BASIC, but I think I can hear a HDD in there. The XT seems to boot up into DOS off the HDD, but the CGA card has died. HDD doesn't sound original though. A bit more investigating to do :)
