I have just acquired a 9402-F02 that "worked when stored" . . that is displaying a SRC of 0000 0006. I have some hardware guides, but nothing older than a 9402-400 and this SRC is not mentioned in the manuals that I have. I am guessing that it is power related, and possibly has to do with the (now ancient) lead acid UPS battery that is installed. If anyone has a copy of the Problem Analysis, Repair and Parts guide for the 9402-Fxx (or similar) that they could share, that would be appreciated. (or if someone has debugged this SRC before and has some insight)

Machine does not ever get to the point of powering up -- it just flashes the power led for 10 seconds or so then presents the 0000 0006 SRC. I have tried with the UPS battery (21F2513) plugged in and un plugged from the main power supply.

I have two other working 400s, but both are RISC machines and would be good to get a CISC machine running. . . . (and I think this is the only one that I have that should have dev tools installed)

Thanks!

System Reference Code
0000 000C
0000 0003
0000 0006

System power failure.
For the 9406 System Unit:
1. Go to "Getting Help with Problems" on page 6-8.
For the 9404 System Unit and AS/400 9402 System Unit:
1. Tum the Unit Emergency switch to the On position.
2. Turn the Power switch off and on and then do the IPL again (see "Starting the System" on
page 2-1).
3. If this does not solve the problem, go to "Calling Your Hardware Service Representative" on
page 6-9.

I had trouble on my 9402-F02 with the on-side of the EPO switch being faulty. Test it with a multimeter. Mine was dual-throw so it was possible to switch the wires to the other side of the switch and re-mount it upside down. Good as new.

Thanks for the information! That confirms what I suspected that I have a power problem. I had already discovered the bad EPO switch and corrected it the same way you did -- switching the wire to the other pole.

I guess this means a deep dive into the power supply . . . .

Thanks again!

I have a copy of the 9402 Problem Analysis Guide I didn't remember owning that's got some MAPs and stuff that you'll probably find useful. I will scan some of the relevant parts for you, but I may not be able to get to that until the weekend. FTR there are some other non-EPO, non-PSU related items involved.

Any additional information you have would be appreciated!

No rush at all, I doubt I will have any significant time to look at this until next week anyway.
