Hello,

Last year I got a job with a company that uses IBM i, and I knew nothing of this technology. I bought an old AS/400 (running v4r5) to have a way to play around and learn about the system without the risk of screwing anything up.

All was well at first, but at some point the machine lost power. I did not attempt to IPL for some time after that, and when I did, I was stopped by the error code 27409010.

Apparently, I need to reclaim the cache, but I have been unable to IPL to DST and I have no discs.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I'm actually trying to figure out how to use a AS/400 9406-800 series I recently picked up. I'm connecting to it with an InfoWindow terminal over twinax. I'd really like to find somebody who can give me some assistance since I've never touched one of these before.

Connect the terminal to port "0" on the twin-ax breakout box. Connect power to both boxes. Hold the white power switch on the CPU front panel for few seconds. Wait ten seconds. Initially the hard disks should spin up. What happens next? (You may need to wait a while for the box to IPL.)

BTW, there are umpteen IBM AS/400 and iSeries manuals and Red Books available on-line.
