Hello Federation!

I've been working on setting up a DOS-based BBS. I have a Lantronix UDS-10 configured. It's on my LAN via Ethernet, and connected to my Pentium 1 box running MS-DOS 6.22. The BBS software in use is Waffle BBS.

So far I'm able to telnet into the Lantronix UDS-10 and enter text. Usually the text I enter is displayed on the Pentium 1's DOS terminal, stuff like "Barf: Hello", "Barf: Test", etc. This tells me that telnet is working and the serial communication is working between the Lantronix UDS-10 and Pentium 1 box. However, I get no feedback on my telnet client (no banner page, nothing). It does spit out the AT init string to the telnet session though.

How can I get this DOS-based BBS to work properly via telnet?

I reconfigured the UDS10 and now upon connecting via telnet, the bbs login screen opens on the DOS/Pentium box but not in the telnet screen. Seems like I need to figure out how to redirect to the telnet session.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Ok. Everything works except the Lantronix UDS10 won't "hang up" whenever a person exits the BBS with "bye". I have to manually reboot the UDS10 each time. If I don't do this, the UDS10 thinks the previous session is still active.

I've tried several AT commands for "hang up":

  • ~ATH1
  • ATH1
  • &D2
  • &Cx
  • ~DTR
But the UDS10 just sits there and keeps the (now stale) session open. Any ideas??

Not familiar at all with this device, but I assume you also tried just a normal "ATH"?

Did that, but what I've sort of figured out is that the BBS software is terminating the "call" before the UDS10 telnet service is aware that the call is over. So the BBS is ready for the next call, but the UDS10 still thinks the previous telnet session is open, preventing the next user from creating a new telnet session.
