I went through a phase there where I wanted a PDA instead of a full-size computer. I bought a "Casio Cassiopeia" (BE-300) and recently got from my sister a Palm Zire Z22. Back in the day I owned a Handspring Visor Prism.

I broke the screen on the HVP by accident but kept the accessories I bought for it: a Snap N Type keyboard, a GPS unit, and a wireless internet modem.

It's been tough but I'm accepting the fact that purchasing a "Palm Treo" 800 or 700wx is a little too expensive for me to purchase. No fancy GPS for me.

I've realized the handheld computing market sucks. One program for mapping lets you take a picture of the screen while you're looking at the map & send that to your Palm device. There were rumors years ago when I was still into this field of "study" when the Sharp Zaurus with Linux was talked about.

A few years ago having something that fit in the palm of your hand or something you had to hold with both hands to operate seemed a little cool even though I don't recall seeing people use them. The latest rage seems to be "Smart Phones." This is a trend of the where PDAs of the past morph into super duper cell phones of the present.

Anyhow, I finally discovered how to download from the Cassiopeia CD-ROM into the actual device itself the File Manager & Photo Viewer. (I guess I was a little impatient before and just didn't realize what all the markings on the screen meant. Honestly, why release it with like four or five crucial programs for the handheld on a CD-ROM? They should have been on the thing in the first place.

OOOO! I just remembered the LAN adaptor I saw on Amazon. Seventy bucks & this used doohickey would be mine... But since I've figured out how to sync my BE-300 now with minimal problems I guess I won't need that.

Oh, and "Z22" used to be the name of a mainframe computer. I wonder if Palm knew this when they assigned the model number.
