Black Screen of Death on Emate?

Hi I just got a Newton-Apple Emate 300 a few days ago, and it worked at first but I was trying to get it to connect to my pc with an ethernet card and it turned off and wouldn't turn on again... so I soft-resetted it (just held down the reset button for a few seconds). Now every time I turn it on I just get a plain black screen... help please!

Update: Found the problem- I had the contrast set to dark. lD
