Blue monochrome LCD screen issue?

While browsing on eBay, I've looked at two identical model laptops and one has a very dark uniform blue screen when not turned on (left picture). The other has a blue outlined screen that does not look too great (right picture). I've seen this many times before but assumed the right laptop has screen issues.



Does the right one actually have screen issues or is it just different screen technology? Could the left picture laptop have a blue screen overlay on it perhaps?

I've always been curious about this. Any help is much appreciated.

The one on the left would be normal. The one on the right is damaged in some way, I'd guess vinegar syndrome. It doesn't match exactly to what you usually see, but it can present differently depending on the type of screen and a whole lot of other factors. I'll bet the root cause is the same.
