Boxed Commodore 64 + Disk Drive

I have the opportunity to pick up a boxed Commodore 64 + Disk Drive. The computer was used lightly in the 1980s, then put in storage.

Unfortunately it's about a 2 hour drive to pick it up. I've never used or owned a Commodore and I was wondering if this a good pick. The owner is wanting around $100; including gas and bridge tolls it would make it close to $150, which is a little steep for me. Unfortunately eBay is not as helpful as it usually is for me determining value.

Any opinions?

Well, I have a few Macs I'm still working with so I'm not looking to buy anything. I was curious about the Commodore because I know that Macs in their original box go for a pretty penny, so I was gonna pick it up if it was worth it. I did manage to track down a boxed Commodore 64 on eBay, but it's $130 with free shipping. So I think I'll pass for now.

I agree with Mike. Even by Swedish standards (*) $100 seems a bit steep unless there is more to it than computer + disk drive. For instance a box of original games, some books, perhaps a random bit of extra hardware.

(*) And you should be aware vintage computers tend to get more expensive over here than in the USA

$150 I'd say is too much. $100 is also probably too much, however it does kind of matter the quality of the box. I've seen a few folks who claim it's in great quality/condition/perfect etc and the box is fairly worn out which while it's nice doesn't make it eye-candy and an average boxed C-64 is probably worth around $30US IMHO. The ones that go for more is when they throw in components, monitor (+$15-20), disk drive ($10-15?), manuals ($3) and etc.

Unless you have a specific customer in mind that might be willing to pay a premium for a clean box, e.g. a store that wants to use it as part of a display or a collector with a trophy wall, you would probably have a hard time getting top dollar for it yourself.

Besides, C-64s are far more common than early Macs.
