Hello Everyone,

It has been a long time coming but I finally setup my computer project's desk and the centerpiece is my childhood PC. Unfortunately, I do not have my first computer, a Tandy 1000 EX. We sold that to a neighbor right after my Mother bought be the Victor 300SX/33 from McDuff's. I've kept this Victor all these years but never have done anything with it so its been in the closet. I had the box until about 2010, and the KB/Mouse but alas those are gone too. So here the start of my Home-lab and Retro Bench.

My third PC used a Cyrix 486DX40 and was one I built myself as a teen in the 90s, That custom PC train never stopped so I've been building rigs ever since. I've had everything from the Pentium 133, Cyrix 6x86 PR200+ to K6-2s and 3s all the way to modern Ryzen this day. I've worked on co-worker's and friends PCs during college so I've probably been been inside may brand name vendor models. Today, I am a modern computer software engineer, gamer by night and one of my regrets is that while the PCs of my youth got me into the hobby I didn't really have any software developer skills so I was a hardware guy building them, installing upgrades and software for people. I've decided to try to apply my knowhow today against the computers of yesterday.

Inspired by The 8bit Guy, Adrian from Adrian's Digital Basement and the good people here. I've decided to get into retro game development to learn 6502 assembly and 8086/88 assembly as well as do sprite work and whatnot. So why not dust off the Victor and I have pre-ordered the Commander X16 2023 run. Here is a bit of my collection to show off. I hope you enjoy!

Project Table

I still have a few things to bring in and a lot of dusting to do now that I am looking at the pictures.

That motherboard is a Shuttle mobo I had around 2000/2001 and hopefully I can turn that into retro gaming PC at some point. I have some original Radeon 32MB cards laying around.

Victor Upgrade Project Parts:
Gotek Floppy Emulator
Adaptec AHA-1542CP
NEC 2X CRR-55JD
Syba CF to IDE adapter
Transcend 256MB CF Industrial card (new old stock)

If the CF adapter doesn't work out I do have the StarTech IDE to SATA adapter I was going to use on that Athlon Slot A mobo I could try out.

Home Lab

As you can see, I have a few Dell and Lenovo modern workstations. I bought those dirt cheap off Ebay for doing homelab projects. I'm a big linux enthusiast and like having PCs that can do specific tasks. One is running proxmox and PiHole, one is for coding, one is a Jellyfin server with an 8tb HD for my DVD collection. I've just moved them all in here so only 1 is connected atm. I recently got a micro PC for doing coding so the other machine will probably be redone as another virtual machine... maybe even for the use of creating environment for cross compiling.

My Game Collection

In the last year, I've been blessed to have an Uncle that is great at carpentry and we've turned one room into my gaming room with custom shelfing on 3 sides of the room!. We've even setup a home made coffee table with podcasting equipment. Maybe one day I'll do a podcast if my retro hobby takes me anywhere and someone could gain value from hearing about it.

These previous pictures are right after the build was complete and the wall paint dried. As time has gone by and I got more of my stuff up the shelfing and game collection has grown and been re-organized. More to come!

Here are some more pictures of the game room. It spans games from the 70's to the current generation. It is still a WiP so please excuse some of the mess. The podcast table is right in front of the couch and you can game, stream, code, watch YT about retro computers on the 27" monitor or on the 40" on the wall across the room. The 40" has the FPGA SNES and Genesis connected up.
