Building a PDP-8 straight 8!

Are the card spacers are meant to fit between the handles? The handles themselves act as spacers, but don't clamp the cards together. Will these spacers will clamp the cards together?

Lou
I dont know, I had a look at my flip chip boards and the spacer and could not see how to use it?

So in my 1973 small computer handbook on page 9-68 it says:

"H852, H853 Module Holders
When using two or more W940, W941, W942, W943, W950 or W951 boards in parallel in logic connector blocks, rigidity of the boards is maintained by using the H852 rib type holder between board handles 1 and 2, 3 and 4, and using the H853 non-rib type holder between board handles 2 and 3."

I'm still having trouble visualizing this....

me too? and I am holding a W940, but if I am meant to have two different parts I am missing one, as all my spacers are the same?

Lou, I was trying to find a photo myself... in PDP-11s I think the problem comes about mostly when mixing HEX and QUAD UNIBUS modules which have metal and plastic handles, respectively. The spacers are applied across the tops.

That is a problem for sure! In my 8/a with hex height modules, the RX8E and my home-made quad height memory are "sagging" because only one edge engages the card guide by the A slot. The D end is hanging in space and sagging.
