Can someone help refresh my memory.

Back in the day, I used to hook up my C64 through the RF modulator. Question: did the C64 output audio through a speaker? Or does the composite signal include audio?

These days, I'd like to hook up my C64 by using the video connector (I have the 8 pin din video connector). So I'd like to take the luma+chroma signals and convert it to s-video and buy one of those s-video to VGA converter boxes. So my second question is: I would need a strategy to preserve the AUDIO OUT signal (on the video connector port) would I not? How are you setting up your C64?

FYI, I'd like to connect the C64 to VGA.

Thanks

Yes, RF modulator is audio+video.
If you run the luma+chroma or composite output of the video connector to a display-only device, then you just take the audio signal and run it through an audio amplifier of some sort, since most VGA monitors have no audio whatsoever.
The audio signal from the C64 is just a standard line-level signal, which you can send into any home stereo. Since the C64 is mono, you'll probably want to use a Y-cable to split the signal to both left and right channels. That's how I've been running my C64.
