i just received a Compaq Prosignia 486 motherboard, part no. 143780-001. i went to go hook it up and try a boot, but then i saw it has this really strange connector for the PSU. it ALMOST looks like an AT header, but not quite. there is a header with 5 pins, a small gap, then another one with 7 pins. i haven't seen anything like this before, and i was wondering if anybody here has any information on it. i think i have pretty good google-fu, but after 2 hours i haven't been able to turn up anything that helps me.

here is a picture of it.. i am at my shop and i have no digital camera here so i had to settle for putting it on my scanner. it's a bit blurry but you can see what it looks like:

^^ you can see it at the bottom of the pic, right below the EDO sockets.

does anybody know what this is? is there any way i can just use a normal AT supply on it if i build some sort of adapter? i'd love to see a pinout if anybody has it for this! if it helps, i noticed that this board has an odd little image on it with a picture of a tennis racket, and to the right of it, it says "Wayne's world" ........... wtf?

thank you, gentlemen.

I seem to remember that the older Prosignia line used a proprietary power supply. If there is a Compaq part number on the board you may be able to cross reference it to a specific Prosignia model. HP support still lists part numbers for most of those systems so finding the Power Supply part number should not be that difficult. My guess is that it is one of these power supply part numbers, either 274134-002 or 269195-001.

I can't help you with your question, but I really want to see a picture of this tennis racket you talk of...

the board is most likely from a COMPAQ ProSignia 486DX2/66, COMPAQ ProSignia VS 486DX2/66 or Compaq ProSignia PC Server 486DX2/66
not sure what the difference is

heres the old spec page for the VS http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/servers/prosignia/index.html

EDIT >> cant be the VS or PC server as they had the processor on a plugin card... so probably from a COMPAQ ProSignia 486DX2/66

Double EDIT >> could only find one Compaq power supply (ProSignia 200 server) with a 7+5 pin arrangement instead on the normal 6+6 AT connectors.
Could only make out the wire colours on the 7 pin connector.

Red Red Red White Black Black Black

so maybe they took one of the earth (black) wires from P8 AT connector & added it to P9 AT connector so they couldnt be connected to incorrectly
