CBM PET 3032 STRANGE BOOT

But now that I think about it, unlike before, I also reinserted the two 6520s! maybe one of these is bad?

Now however, I inserted the Nivag card and I also left the two 6520s.. let's see if it still crashes!

As I have told you many times before - make one change at any one time!

Also, you need to tell us what else you have done if you decide to do something else other than what we have asked you to do.

If you keep doing this - we all get confused 😕...

Dave

Ok...
Now i have these configuration:

-NIVAG'S BOARD with CPU (setting to test PET's Rams)
-All Roms with Pettester rom
- 6522
-two 6520

Did you have the 6520s in before when it worked?

If not, either remove them now or note that if the test fails then remove them both and re-run the test again.

What about the physical ROMs in the PET itself?

Dave

Ok, I'm out for the night (a curry and quiz) so if anyone else wants to help Desperado out please go ahead in my absence...

Dave

I have now 6522 and both 6520 on board but with nivag's board the test goes on without blocking!

Whats the setup of the board ? RAM & ROM ON or OFF

Is that every standard chip in place ?
Yes i have standard chip in place but in Ud8 i have pettester rom also.

Ok, so all PET chips fitted except PETTEST in UD8 ?

I note in the picture, you have the boards RAM turned off so the real RAM is being used and all the ROM's mapped to the board with PETTEST selected. So PETTEST will be running from Nivags board rather than the chip in UD8

Is it running PETTEST with no errors ?

Yes, with Nivag s board run without problems... But if i remove the diagnostic board, pettester is stucked after some dram test!

Humm

Please try with jumpers 9AB & CD set to OFF (ie move them from mid to upper to mid to lower) and try again.

Then try without the board

Kernal ROM in socket UD6, PETTEST in UD7 but without anything in UD8 to UD12

Following Gary C's instruction above... with 9AB & CD set to OFF...

What do you see on the first screen? What checksums are you seeing?

PS
I realise this board has PETTESTE2KV04.bin i.e. the original editor ROM version so you will need E and F enabled and may have to move some ROMs around into the CD sockets to get them checksummed.

You can go back to your tests, leaving the VIA and PIA's out, and accept there will be a video disturbance and just ignore it , or, tie pin 19 of the graphics ROM to +5V or GND to get rid of it. If you tie it with a resistor to +5v, like a 10k, probably, you can just leave that there as it won't have any effect when the VIA is put back in as it is a very small load.
