Howdy all,

Does anybody have either the parts list or schematic for the Compaq Portable 1 PSU?

I'm (finally) working on recapping the thing and I'm trying to figure why the line filter caps (C1-C4) are physically so large for such modest values (100uF, 25v). They're inboard of the bridge rectifiers so should really only be DC but I'm not seeing much int he way of markings- amongst the part numbers there's a few + symbols. I'm wondering if the caps they used were bipolar for any odd reason in that location...

Thanks

They're still selling their book/document for a reasonable price it only seems fair to refer people to them.
I do wish the scans were better quality though.

Edit: Oh and physically bigger caps will usually handle higher peak currents etc [from memory]
The caps in the Compaq Portable PSU do seem a little over the top, but I would at least try to get close to their physical size when recapping.

I didn't think to check Sam's, figured it was too new...!

Had figured that may have been the case also, larger caps with better characteristics for spiky voltages but I really wasn't sure. I have measured all the caps and am going to start building up a list at Mouser.

There's UPGRADE stuck on the back of mine, by the looks of it the main switching silicon has been upgraded.

Thank you
