I've found a couple reasonable offerings on e-Bay for commodore mice that appear to have a 9-pin male pinout the 64 needs, but the ad says its for an Amiga. So basic question is, will mice made for the Amiga also work on a C64?

I can confirm that the 128 and 64 share mice, but don't know about Amiga - I'd imagine that if it has that connector it should work though.

.. which also is why a 1351 mouse for the C64 is worth many times more money than a visually identical Amiga 500 mouse. The model number is printed on the underside, always ask for pictures of that if you are the least concerned.

Part number? 312065-01 is also a 1351 but has a long Amiga style plug and were the later models made in Japan as opposed to the 1351 marked C64 mice with the stubby plug which were made in HK.

Amiga mice and C64/128 mice look the same but are totally different, can't be swapped.
This. Specifically, mice for Commodore 8-bitters output analog signals for the X/Y values, which are converted by the SID chip into CPU-readable values. Amiga mice, on the other hand, are pure-digital. CBM mice are closer to Atari game paddles than to Amiga mice, really.
