Anyone know much about the Compaq Portable 1070 10?
It is a 286 I just purchased on ebay. It has a HD.
I'm trying to get ready for when it gets delivered.

I'm guessing the last "10" in the part number means 10MB hard drive?
Is this considered a Compaq Portable Plus or a Portable II? Anyone know?
Since it is not bootable and I will need to acquire a DOS disk. Would that be a 360K floppy and or DOS 2.1 or 3.1? I'm guessing it's 360K since it is a full height drive.

Any help would be appreciated. Those are just the questions off the top of my head.

The Portable 286 is a model that was produced to have a 286 on the market before the smaller Portable 2 with a 286 came out. These were always equiped with an HDD, just like the Portable Plus.
More information here: Portable 286 (my website, here you can also find all drivers.)

It should be a 20 mb HDD, if it's a 10 someone else swapped it.

I wish you a lot of fun with it. ;)

Wow.
Great information "LCARS"
I didn't even realize "Portable 286" was the model name. I saw that tag in the ebay listing and I thought it was just stating the obvious....like when people have a license plate as "REDVETT", yeah we know you drive a Red Corvette" LOL
Since I have to buy a DOS disk, do you recommend 2.1 or 3,x?
I'm guessing this would be 360K drives?

Nice, you also have the feed. This 286 model is more rare as they built fewer of them.

I would recommend Compaq MSDOS 3.1 or 3.31, but I think it can support newer DOS versions as well. A 286 can technically run 6.22
Yes, 360K drives.

I can send you ms dos 6.22 floppies on 360kb flopoy disks for.the cost of shipping to get you up and running. possibly a compaq portable setup disk too.
