I'm sure any of you guys who had Tandy stuff back in the day remember this company. For those who didn't, they sold replacement parts and the normal upgrade parts for (at least) the entire 1000 series, not sure if they date back to TRS-80 days. Some of the more interesting things they offered were a 16-bit to 8-bit IDE converter and an 8-bit SVGA video card with 1MB memory on it.....but by far the most compelling and outlandishly expensive part they sold were replacement motherboards for the 1000SL/TL/RL/RLX/RSX series. These PCs had nonstandard motherboards that utilized Tandy sound and video, and also suffered from an 8-bit bus so they weren't true AT class machines. This upgrade was very similar to the Reply Turboboard/Powerboard for the IBM PS/2 as I do believe it retained the proprietary Tandy audio & video devices and HDD/FDD controllers. Prices were typically $1,000+ and they were available in everything from 486 to Pentium II. I wanted one so bad but knew that I would never, ever be able to afford it.
I only saw one of these in my entire life, and it was listed on eBay probably about ten years ago. I recently was looking for info on the company and was able to find their website from 1998 fully functional on Archive.org: Have a look!
Has anyone ever come across one of these extremely rare parts? I know DCS is long gone but I'd really love to own one of these. It's not sacrilege to me, I think it would be awesome to be staring at Windows XP on one of these tiny little suckers:
