DEC RX02 Emulator - AK6DN

Well, I found some RX01 images for PDP-11, such as:

http://www.stackosaurus.com/figforth.html
A gzipped bootable RX01 floppy disk image with fig-FORTH 1.3.2.

and

rt11v3b.imd 215364 2009-02-21 18:52:26 RT-11 V3B

I ungzipped the first one, put it on the SD card, assigned 0 to it, booted the system and issued "DX0" at the "START?" prompt... A large number of "cmd=0013" message show up on the emulator console, but eventually the system halts at address 713712, which, according to the BDV11 documentation, is the address for "RX device error"...

I copied the second one to the SD card, assigned it to 0, expanded it as required using the E command, and attempted a boot... Same string of "cmd=0013" and a halt with the same error. Sigh...

I clearly don't know what I am doing...

The RX01 forth image should work, it boots as an RX11 image on simh:
Code:
rx01_figforth-1.3.2.dsk[507] ll
total 256K
-rw-r--r-- 1 Don 251K May 4 2017 rx01_figforth-1.3.2.dsk

rx01_figforth-1.3.2.dsk[508] pdp11

PDP-11 simulator V3.12-2

sim> set ry dis
sim> set rx ena
sim> att rx0 rx01_figforth-1.3.2.dsk
RX: buffering file in memory
sim> boot rx0

FIG-FORTH V 1.3.2
  OK

The other images will not work, they are .IMG format, and are not byte-for-byte images of an RX01 disk. You need raw .DSK images.

I've been trying to download the windows binary for simh, but the artifact "simh-4.0-Current--2023-02-09-5483ffbb.zip" is not an active link and nothing happens...

Ah... found an old one (v3.9-0) and it does what you show it to do... maybe there is something wrong with my RXV11 card...

Well in my TU58 diagnostics images page https://ak6dn.github.io/PDP-11/TU58/ I have an XXDP bootable image that has
the DEC diagnostics for the RX11 card (altho it does not specifically say RXV11). Disk 11XX_4.DSK has the ZRXAF0.BIC
and ZRXBF0.BIC diagnostic programs for the RX11 controller and RX11/RX01 exerciser. But this assumes you have setup
your system with an extra serial card to emulate the TU58 serial interface (which I don't think you have done).

PDP11GUI may be an option to download a diagnostic in standalone mode, but I don't know if it works with your specific CPU
and ODT...

So I've been able to boot the image you provided... the first diag (ZRXAF0.BIC) runs for hours with no problem, but I don't understand what is happening with the second diag (ZRXBF0.BIC)... Any ideas on how to interpret this?

Thanks.

Don your emulator works with the RXV11

joe
Hello Joe,

Would it be possible for you to post an RX01 disk image that you know boots properly? At this point I'm not sure if the problem is the hardware or just an image that is not correct... Also, are you using the SMD version of the board?

Thanks, Jon.

I have the v3 board with the DS8641 chips. My eyes are not good enough for surface mount.
Here's a rx01 boot disk. No idea what else is on it.

Hey, that worked... it booted RT-11SJ V05.03! Now that I have a known good starting place I think I can make progress.

Hi folks,
think I joined the RX02 emulator user's group this weekend. After years of fiddeling finally I found finally something which simply works. Even if I run it only in RX01 mode due to being connected to a RXV11 interface in my 11/03.
This thing (v4) boots and runs LSX on the '03 without any problems. Big ancient UNIX time! Will do a more detailed post about this. Big thanks to Don!

I still have eight full parts kits left: PCB $10, microSD adapter $5, all discrete parts $15. US$30 total plus shipping. I have shipped kits all over the world, from Tasmania to Austria.

Full documentation and source here, including PCB gerbers if you so choose to go that route. Website: https://github.com/AK6DN/rx02_emulator
I have registered with this site to specifically ask if you still have any of your RX01/RX02 emulator kits left? I would be interested in buying several kits, and did not know how else to reach out to you. (sorry to waste the public space... as a newbie I am not allowed to send any direct messages.)

If you can't DM email me direct at north@alum.mit.edu. I have all kinds of RX02 emulator parts from bare thruhole pcb to assembled/tested SMT depending on what you want.
