I picked up a Tandy 1000 for $10. It's in very nice shape. Every time I try to launch certain applications, it asks me to insert a disk with the file compress.res into a drive. Why does it ask this? I'm guessing some things may have been deleted and it needs an install disk. Can anyone confirm?

I am fairly sure that there is no compression utility in Deskmate and nothing in any of the file lists I looked at show a compress.res. What programs are you trying to launch?

Third party compression TSR might cause that if uninstalled but I haven't seen one that returned that error message.

What is the specific model? For example, the 1000 RLX had Deskmate launcher in ROM, but required the floppies or a hard drive installation to actually open anything. Let us know the Catalog Number from the back of the PC.

Depending on your model, we can point you at the right disks.

It's a 1000 RL. it has both the launcher in ROM and the drive installation

Also, I was wrong. It has Deskmate 3.5
