Hello all I recently picked up some kaypros and an ibm 5150 recently and just started playing with 5 1/4 disks. None of my machines have hard drives (yet). I need a 360k 5 1/4 floppy created with the imd disk utilities by Dave dunfeild on it for my ibm 5150. I can send you a brand new formatted highland 3m brand 360k disk to use. None of my newer machines have 360k floppy drives only 1.44mb 3.5”. Thanks all!

Does the 5150 have a serial or parallel port? If so, it might be a good idea to put something like fastlynx or laplink on a floppy too. Of course you’ll have an issue making 360K floppies without out a driver larger than 360K to hold images. So you might want to look into some sort of hard drive or SD/CF solution.

I have a tool that is posted here somewhere FDIMAGE that I used for exactly this. It can split images into pieces so you can make it make two 180K files that you can serial transfer over and then recombine them into a full disk.

Usage: FDIMAGE [options] source target

Options:
The source can be a filename or floppy drive (a: or b: ).
The target can be a filename or floppy drive (a: or b: , or nul.
/y will skip target filename overwrite prompting.
/v will verify an operation (the target will be verified, not written).
The source media format is determined automatically, but can be overridden
with /160, /180, /320, /360, /720, /1200, /1440, /1680, or /2880.
The target media format is checked unless the /smfc option is specified.
The /k will prompt the user to press a key before all operations so the
user can swap disks if necessary.
The /s2, /s4, and /s8 options indicate that the source is multiple files.
The /t2, /t4, and /t8 options indicate that the target is multiple files.
/noxms will disable xms memory usage; /noems will disable ems memory usage.
Options may appear anywhere on the command line.
/? will show this help.

Hello,

Where are you?

I'm in the UK if that would be any benefit.

I don't need a disk sending to start with, I have blank ones I can 'zap' with a magnet to make sure they're clear. I'd need to use an 1.2Mb drive set to double step, but I've created 360k disks before without problem - there ARE problems you need to watch out for, but I think if you do NOT have ANY 5.25" drives then you'll not have any problem.

One of the other offers will be more help if you're in the US.

Thanks for all the replies! Yes the ibm has a serial port and I have a machine setup with lap link and I’ve used it on others to transfer files to hard drives. I’ve never done it with a dual floppy system. Secondly I will be getting compact flash for my 5150 and kaypro 16. I’m also on the hunt for a 360k drive that I can through in my window 98 machine. Thirdly I’ll try and use the fd image tool. And fourth the the drives in the kaypro 16 pc compatible works great and the ibm 5150 drive A: reads them perfectly it’s how I made a boot disk. And lastly I will be getting compact flash adapters for them but bills come first. I’m in Pennsylvania by the way

I can do it, you sure you just want one disk though? I can make kaypro disks too...
I have boot disks and the ms dos utilities diska and made copies of them. I think I have 4 or five new 5 1/4 left. I would like several programs like imd and laplink until I get the compact flash cards. I’m fairly new to the forum so I don’t know if I ha private message privileges yet.

All of the 5 1/4 drives I have are 360k ds/dd and all but one work fine so I’m good there. I will be searching for an extra to throw in my windows 98 desktop. I’m in pa but thanks for the offer!
