Hi all,

I would like to know if somebody here owns a Osborne Executive computer.

To run on this machine a CP/M program of mine, and send me the result : a photo of the screen. Thanks.

(my program uses the BDOS function 12 to display on the screen the exact version of CP/M received in HL).

If somebody owns this computer and knows how to copy then launch a CP/M program on a floppy disc, that's perfect. ;)

I've contacted several owners of Osborne Executive, but they don't know how to use it...

Hi Chuck,

It is a good idea, but I do not have a disk drive 5 1/4.

I know how to format a diskette for Osborne format SD and DD, but I only have a A: 3 inch and a B: 3 1/2 inch disk drive on my Amstrad CPC 6128.

So it is easier if somebody knows how to transfer a program from a PC to his Osborne Executive. And has time for that, of course. :)

I keep forgetting my age. It was driven home the other day by a call from an engineer with a batch of DC-600A carts that were written before he was born...and young adults who say "Oh, my grandfather had one of those..."

Perhaps there's someone in your area who might help out. It's a good idea to include your approximate location in your profile so others can get some idea that you're posting from Ouagadougou...

Hi Chuck,

Location included. ;)

I've found a friend of mine who owns a 5 1/4 disc drive.
So, if really a Osborne Executive's owner doesn't know how to transfer then launch a CP/M program, I can send him a floppy disk abroad, it's not expensive.
I only have an Amstrad CPC6128, but fortunately, I know how to format the floppy with Osborne's format.

I'm just curious to know if Digital Research has commercialized a 3.0 version in 1982 before the 3.1,
and if yes, I will disassemble it to compare both to find eventually bugs, improvements, etc. Just for fun.

But I do not want to buy a Osborne Executive only for do this test of course! :D

Hi Spoke,

I have an Osborne 1 if that's any use and I do know how to get files on to it and I'm happy to give your software a try.

Cheers,

Andy.

Hi Andy,

Thank you very much, that's nice of you. I would be very glad to see my program running on a Osborne 1 computer!
I prepare the program for you. I'll send you the asm 8080 source code, and the .com executable file. :)

Hi Spoke,

I own an Osborne Executive computer. I haven't booted it up for quite some time, but the last time I did it was running like a champ. I'm in the process right now of cleaning, booting, and doing spot maintenance on all of my vintage machines, so you caught me at an opportune time! I also am quite familiar with the CP/M operating system, and can do what you described with the disk in no time at all. Please get back to me at my email address if you would like to proceed on this (that'll give me time to pull the Osborne out, boot it up, and make sure it's running OK). Cheers, Mark_E

I too have a working Osborne Executive. So, if I can be of any assistance, let me know. I also have lots of experience transfering disk images, not for the Osborne specifically, but in general. I have a PC set up with various programs like imd and also have a catweasel, if that helps.

Hi Marmotking,

Yes, your help will be greatly appreciated. I've sent you a private message. Thanks. ;)

Hi everyone,

here it is the result : glad to see my program running on a Osborne Executive! :toast2:

As you can see, the exact version number is 3.1, and not 3.0 as says the boot screen.
