I know I've seen this mentioned elsewhere on these boards before so I figured I'd give it a shot. In the last few months of digging through trash I've amassed quite a collection of perfectly usable and complete PIII/P4 systems...so many in fact that I'm forgetting what my closet used to look like. It's amazing what people throw away. At worst, I typically have to re-format and re-install either XP or Win2k. More commonly, all it takes is a little spyware and crapware removal to get things going.

I got a bunch of results through Google, but to be honest most of them looked pretty shady. I know about Freecycle but I'd rather do it direct instead of having people coming over constantly and "kicking the tires". Does anybody have any experience with reputable organizations in the Northeast USA? I'm just outside of NYC in Nassau County (Long Island).

Thanks

Hmmm, a lot of the places that I fix up and donate more current computers to may be available in your area as well, such as the Child's Wish Foundation or Computers for Kids.

 My work computer (as a web developer!) is a 733 MHz Pentium III. Now I realize it is so horribly outdated that not even charity organizations would accept it as a donation.
